It was the Vikram Era, year 1882. Shriji Maharaja thought, “ Satsang is satisfactorily popularized in the country. But now it is very necessary to have my followers volume ( Shastragranth ).” Having finally decided, Maharaja stayed in Vadtal. There he prepared this volume. The volume was named SHIKSHAPATRI and it is necessarily not for any one, any country, not for the particular nation and not only for the Satsangis. It is meant for the whole humankind, for every nation. Wherever man resides on the earth, if he has keen desire at heart to know god, for them all the SHIKSHAPATRI is written.
SHIKSHA means precept, PATRI means a letter. This letter is addressed to the whole mankind. How happy we are when we receive a letter from our near and dear ones ! How happy we are on reading the letter ! Moreover, suppose the letter that we receive has come to us from a relative residing in a foreign country, our joy knows no bound ! The SHIKSHAPATRI is such a letter. It is written by the master of Akshardham, ShrijiMaharaj, to us He Himself in the form of a postman and has handed it to us. Such is the significance of this letter ! Let us begin with heading this letter, and note down what is written for in the beginning, Maharaja wants to say;
1. (My disciples) shall never kill or harm, or sacrifice in the name of YAGNA, deliberately any living being in this world though they are negligible tiny insects, such as lies and bugs.
2. None shall ever use violence against any person as a mean to gain something such as woman-wealth and even Kingdom.
3. None shall commit suicide or kill some one. That means none shall commit violence in any event even though quite unfavourable to us.”
4. Flesh in any form shall not be eaten even though it is a ramnant of offering in a sacrifice, and liquor or alcohol shall not be taken though it is offered to deity, or the medicines that contain liquor or alcohol.
5. None shall show anger, either with himself or with others. None shall harm anyone or himself in anger.
6. None make a theft, not even with the idea of using the booty for the religion purposes.
7. None shall ruin a flower or fuel without the owner permission.
8. None shall even look at somebody's wife.
9. None shall gamble.
10. None shall consume intoxicants, such as has hish, ganja, or tobacco.
11. None shall use or beat any abusive or indecent words against Gods, Brahmins, and the holy places. chaste women, the holy Vedas or the holy persons, and never hear those words if uttered against anyone.
12. None shall take bribe.
13. None shall associate himself with those persons, who under pretext of preaching religion or devotion to God, seek woman wealth and worldly pleasures and commit sins.
14. None shall ever excrete or urinate or spit at the public places. Religious works must be done without delay.
15. None shall indulge in self-praise.
16. None shall wear such clothes which do not cover but expose the parts of the body.
17. Perform the following rituals :-
(a) Wake-up early before the sunrise.
(b) Take holy bath.
(c) Sit on sactified floor and meditate God.
(d) Only after offering food to icon and take only that food, water, fruits and flowers thus offered.
18. Honour and pay respect to the elders. None shall sit in posture with one foot placed on another thigh.
19. Follow only the virtuous deeds of the great persons.
20. provide food and clothes to household servants, if any, and take their care.
21. Pursue the divine devotion and have the scholars to meet their fate.
22. Consider your guest as god and treat them with respect by offering food, water etc.
23. Attend to your parents, preceptor and a sick person, and render service
with proper care and nursing as long as they live.
24. Save and store money and food grains, at the proper season sufficient to their future needs, according to their abilities. Those who own cattle shall store sufficient stock of fodder also. The householders may keep cows and other cattle only if they can afford to look after them well.
25. “ Never enter in business transaction, without a written record signed by witness, such s sale or purchase of property, lending or borrowing money, with any person, even with son or friend.” Always spend only within the limit of your income. Clearly recollect your daily income and expenditures and then record it in diary and maintain proper accounts in a neat and clean handwriting. Offer to god one-tenth of the income received through your occupations. Householders with limited sources of income may offer one-twentieth of it.
26. Never be debtor to your Acharya, preceptor and the temple. While going on pilgrimage to worship god or to saint or to a preceptor, never accept food offered by others, either on the way or at those places. Pay the laborer the proper remuneration as promised, and, Never conceal the matter regarding clearing of debt. The wealth kept by the widows for their livelihood shall not be spent even for philanthrophic use.”
